‘Affordable’ tickets for Man Utd game at Bukit Jalil
PETALING JAYA: A total of 85,000 tickets will be put on sale for the friendly football match between Manchester United and the Malaysian Selection at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on July 18.

The chief executive officer of ProEvents, the promoters of the Manchester United Asia Tour 2009, Julian Kam, said that tickets for the match had been priced at RM58, RM68 and RM98 while a limited VIP ticket would cost RM308.
There will also be 2,000 student tickets priced at RM28 (normal price RM68) and they are only available at the Ticketpro headquarters in Kelana Jaya.

“We have assured the die-hard United fans that tickets for the match would be affordable due to the global economic crisis. At least 90% of the 85,000 tickets are priced below RM100,” said Julian at a press conference to announce ticketing details yesterday.

Ticketpro Malaysia Sdn Bhd have been appointed as the ticket agents. Tickets can be purchased from June 1 at Ticketpro sales outlets nationwide and by calling up their hotline 03-78807999 or booking online through their website, www.ticketpro.com.my.

Julian added that there would also be a special pre-sale from May 22-31 and tickets sold during the period at selected Nike Concept Stores and Al-Ikhsan Sports Stores would come with free passes to watch the Red Devils in a training session.

United will be making their fourth trip to Malaysia. They made appearances in 1981, 1995 and 2001.

ProEvents International Sdn Bhd are the official organisers of the Manchester United Asia Tour 2009. After Kuala Lumpur, the Red Devils will play in Jakarta (July 20) , Seoul (July 24) and Hangzhou (July 26).

Julian added that they were also cautious and closely monitoring the A (H1N1) flu situation with the respective authorities, including the English from time to time.

“We are getting weekly feedbacks on the issue and should be able to keep everyone posted on the matter,” he said.

On Monday, Malaysia cancelled the Inter-Continental Cup Under-23 football competition scheduled from June 1-14 because of the flu situation. Besides Malaysia, teams from Brazil, Turkey, Japan, Indonesia and South Korea were expected to feature in the tournament.

The FA of Malaysia (FAM) general secretary, Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad, said the decision was made after consultations with officials from the Health Ministry.
